I'm Against the War

Okay, it’s been a while since I blogged.  But now there’s a war going on, among other general destruction, and I feel compelled to weigh in.

Let me be clear—I’m against war. Always have been. And I served in the  United States military. (That was a movement toward supporting deterrence, as a gesture of peace, not to get the chance to prosecute a war.)  When it comes right down to it, I’m just an old field hippie without any hair. Peace, man!  That’s what I’m all about. Make love, not war….

So I’m not happy with what’s happening right now. This madman who is president as taken us into the thick of an assault, and it’s just the wrong time, the wrong place, and the wrong mandate.  Trump thinks he has a mandate to do stuff, hey, he even claims a mandate from God because he avoided getting assassinated!  But he’s wrong.  He’s made a huge mistake and the entire world is gonna pay for it.

It’s like all his other ambitions.  Wrong!  Denying climate change. Wrong! Deporting good people that make our country go. Wrong!  Disrupting the global economy with an illegal tariff program. Wrong!  And that’s just three bullet points of wrongness.  Practically every single decision he has made has been wrong for his country and I could list two dozen other bullet points on detrimental action being taken by this administration.

Oh, and let’s not forget his manipulation of the voting process. From gerrymandering to ID requirements to killing mail in voting he’s doing his best to short circuit the voting process—that’s if he doesn’t kill elections altogether using the war footing as a reason.

Additionally, I want to point out that MAGA is still enthralled.  They’re not defecting. They’re not regretting their vote.  They’re still gripped by the mania that is MAGA, and that’s as disturbing as anything Trump has done.

One thing is clear. He does not have a mandate.  And those of us that stand opposed to MAGA have to carefully consider our approach to remedying the situation.  We cannot go forward in fear.  We have to go forward in strength, we have to show ourselves, in public, demanding change, if only to demonstrate to ourselves that there are numbers.  There are, literally, millions of people who are not going to let this country go down the tubes.  We have to use our opportunities, like No Kings days, to show ourselves and the rest of the electorate that we are mad as hell and we’re not gonna take it anymore!
